Maintenance Surveillance Assessment

Closed Portal - remains stable               Concrete bulkhead             Withstanding Erosions

Navajo AML will continue to focus on reclamation of previous mine sites to ensure stability, and if need be incorporate maintenance repairs. The Maintenance Surveillance Assessment Team (MSAT) initiated the field assessments on the completed AML Coal and Non-coal AML sites. in the Cameron, Monument Valley, Coppermine, Black Mesa, Bidahochi, Indian Wells, Sweetwater, Tse Tah, Teec Nos Pos, Beclabito, Oakspring, Cove, Sanostee, and Eastern Agency areas.

The purpose for MSAT activities is to inventory the completed AML sites and determine if maintenance or repairs are needed.  The Surveillance and Maintenance Plan will ensure the long-term stability of the reclaimed project sites and newly discovered sites.  It will also ensure the physical hazards and environmental problems associated with abandoned mines are minimized to the extent possible for as long as the Navajo AML program is in existence.
